The Co-op is involved in several programs for Youth including the Youth to Washington program (high school sophomores & juniors), Electricity School (ages 8-18), and the IEC Memorial Scholarship program (high school seniors). For more information on each of these programs, see below:

Electricity School

4-H Electricity School will be held June 16, 2010. Electricity School is open to all youth, ages 8-18, not just 4-H members. Students will participate in a morning game show, watch a Power Town safety demonstration and workshops. There is no charge for the event but students must pre-register by completing an application and health form to be eligible. Applications and health forms are due by June 11, 2010.

Youth To Washington Tour - The 2010 Youth to Washington Contest is underway!

The winners of the 2010 Youth to Washington Program are: Amanda Arns of Quincy Notre Dame High School and Rachel Foster of Quincy Senior High School. Congratulations to our winners!

Adams Electric Cooperative is celebrating its 51st year in the Youth Tour program, having sent the first area students to Washington, D.C. in 1959 when the program began in Illinois.

Winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 11-18, 2010 in an annual contest sponsored by Adams Electric Cooperative and Adams Telephone Co-Operative.

High school sophomores or juniors are required to complete a short application (The deadline for this year's contest was February 19.) Up to 34 students from local schools were selected to represent the Cooperatives at the annual Youth Day in Springfield on April 21, 2010. Winners were announced at the end of Youth Day.

Over 1,450 students from across the nation will participate in the 2010 Youth to Washington tour where they will spend seven days in Washington visiting places of historical interest, members of Congress and getting a first-hand view of their government in action.

Parents of eligible students do not have to be members of Adams Electric Cooperative but they should reside in Adams, Brown, Schuyler, Hancock, McDonough, Fulton or Pike county in Illinois. IEC Memorial Scholarship - Looking for a way to pay for college? Consider a Thomas A. Moore IEC Memorial Scholarship available for Illinois high school seniors. Students must be a senior and the son or daughter of a cooperative member, employee or director. Seven scholarships are awarded through the Illinois Electric Cooperative (IEC) Memorial Scholarship Program. Each scholarship is worth $1,250.00

• 4 scholarships are available for the sons/daughters
of Illinois cooperative members for any two or four
year accredited college in the United States.
• 1 scholarship is reserved for the son/daughter of
an Illinois cooperative employee/director for any
school in the United States.
• 2 scholarships available for the son/daughter of an
Illinois cooperative member, employee, or director
for an Illinois community college.
